After Ghana’s World Cup match against Portugal, loudmouthed Ghanaian sports writer Countryman Songo called Arsenal player and Black Stars deputy captain Thomas Partey “useless.”
In their debut game in the Qatar World Cup at Stadium 974 on Thursday, November 24, the Black Stars were beaten 3-2 by Portugal.
Despite a valiant effort from Ghana, which featured Kudus, Salisu Mohammed, Djiku, and Daniel Amartey, Portugal was able to prevail and take first place in Group H with goals from Ronaldo, Raphael, and Joao Felix.
Thomas Partey, on the other hand, was criticized by Countryman Songo and called “useless” in an interview with Good Evening Ghana host Paul Otchere Adom following his subpar performance against Portugal.
Partey was a fairly worthless player in the game, right? You’ve never seen him play like he does for Arsenal.
He responded, “If you want to see Partey do well in a game, you need to have a really excellent tackler or a game passer behind him,” when questioned about why Partey was unproductive.
“Partey is a normal player and cannot compare himself to Essien since Essien is a complete midfielder who is a superb passer, very strong in the midfield, and scores from wide range, whereas Thomas is only good at breaking,” said Songo in response to the question of whether he could be compared to Michael Essien.
